OK, I have a confession to make. I am a bit of a movie nut. Now, you must understand a little about me to understand what I mean. I can rarely tell you who starrred in a movie and I often get details jumbled up between one movie to the next. The thing that I really take away from movies are messages. This is just my way of thinking. I find messages in even the cheesiest of movies. Some I agree with. Some I don't.
So where am I going with this?
Well, last week, I saw the movie Seven Pounds starring Will Smith. I must admint, I don't get the title. But I found an explanation on my favorite not-to-be-taken-as-gosepel-but-often-darn-informative source, wikipedia. The seven pounds reference was taken from a Shakespeare play, The Merchant Of Venice. In this play a debt is made that if not repaid according to terms, must be satisfied with a pound of flesh. I don't want to give away the movie, so I will stop at telling you that Will's character sets out to give life changing gifts to seven people that he believes to be worthy as an atonement for the lives of seven people that perished in a car crash that he caused.
This movie really hit my heart strings and I walked away with a reminder that I wanted to always be the best person that I could be... even when I don't think that anyone is watching. It also reminded me of the importance of being charitable... to give of myself. Not just money... Time and wisdom and genuine caring. How many people just need someone to listen? How many people need someone to just care whether they get up in the morning? I think that there are more people that you think that need these very basic things, yet so often everyone else is so busy that they don't make the time to
Makes you think... how do you behave when you think no one is looking. Are you a person that would be worthy? Conversely, would you be willing to make such an ultimate sacrifice to have such a profound impact on the lives of others... people that you barely even know?
Definitely makes you think.
